Battlefield 6 voice chat not working is usually a settings problem. Voice chat only works with your squad or party, and it can be switched off in Settings > Audio > Voice.

Start with the quick fixes, then go to your platform. The in-game steps come from EA’s help pages and also apply to Battlefield REDSEC, which runs in the same game.

Quick Fixes Checklist

  • Check your headset isn’t muted and the mic is plugged in.
  • Open Settings > Audio and make sure Enable Voice Chat is On under Voice.
  • Pick your headset as the Input Device.
  • Check your Microphone Mode: on Push To Talk, nobody hears you until you press the key.
  • Remember that you can only talk to your squad or party, not the whole lobby.
  • Check the voice chat switch in both the party menu and the Audio settings.

Fix 1: Turn On Voice Chat in Battlefield 6

If voice chat is off, you won’t hear anyone and they won’t hear you. It takes a few seconds to check.

  1. Open the Settings menu.
  2. Select Audio from the list on the left.
  3. Under Voice, set Enable Voice Chat to On.

Some players report that the party menu and the Audio menu each have their own voice switch. If one is off, voice can stay muted, so check both.

Fix 2: Set Your Mic, Threshold and Mode

If you hear your squad but they can’t hear you, the game is probably using the wrong mic or mode. These settings are on the same Audio screen.

  1. Go to Settings > Audio > Voice.
  2. Choose your headset next to Input Device.
  3. Lower the Microphone Threshold if your voice only gets through when you shout.
  4. Set Microphone Mode to Voice Activation (talks when you speak) or Push To Talk (talks only when you press a button).

If the game audio drowns out your squad, adjust Voice Chat Ducking in the Audio settings. It controls how much the game gets quieter when someone talks.

Fix 3: Squad, Party and Proximity Chat

In Battlefield 6, voice chat is only with players in your squad or party, so you can’t talk to the whole team. If you’re in a party, you’re on the Party channel; otherwise you’re on squad chat.

You can switch voice channels from the Commo Rose (Q on PC, RB on Xbox, R1 on PlayStation). In REDSEC’s Battle Royale Quads, the Commo Rose also turns proximity chat on and off, and proximity chat doesn’t work on the Party channel.

Fix 4: Check Muted and Blocked Players

A blocked player is muted for you in both voice and text chat. If one teammate is silent, check whether you blocked or muted them.

  1. Press Tab (PC) or hold the Menu button to open the Scoreboard.
  2. Select the player to open Player actions.
  3. Check whether they are muted or blocked, and unmute them.

PC (Windows) Voice Chat Fixes

On PC, Windows has to allow mic access and the right device has to be the default. Battlefield 6 usually uses the default input device unless you pick one in-game.

  1. Open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and turn on Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone.
  2. Open Settings > System > Sound, and under Input choose your headset mic. Talk and watch the volume bar move.
  3. Under Output, choose the headset you are actually wearing.
  4. Close other apps that grab the mic, like Discord or a browser call, and test again.

If you play through Steam, you can also test your mic in Steam > Settings > Voice. That only tests the device, but it proves Windows can hear it.

If voice still won’t work on PC, repair the game. In Steam, right-click Battlefield 6 > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files; in the EA app, open the game’s three-dot menu and choose Repair.

PS5 Voice Chat Fixes

On PS5, the console decides which mic Battlefield 6 hears. If the wrong device is picked, your squad hears nothing.

  1. Press the mic mute button on the DualSense controller. When it glows orange, your mic is muted.
  2. Go to Settings > Sound > Microphone and pick your headset under Input Device.
  3. On the same screen, use Adjust Microphone Level to check the bar moves when you talk.
  4. If the account is a child account, a parent can check Settings > Family and Parental Controls to see whether communicating with other players is restricted.

A PS5 party (Game Base) and in-game voice are separate channels. If your friends are in a PS5 party, you won’t hear the game’s squad voice chat, and the other way around, so agree on one.

Xbox Series X|S Voice Chat Fixes

Xbox privacy settings can block voice chat in every game, Battlefield 6 included. Check them on the console or on the account you sign in with.

  1. Press the Xbox button, then go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety.
  2. Open Xbox privacy > View details & customize > Communication & multiplayer.
  3. Set You can communicate outside of Xbox with voice & text to allow it if you play with friends on other platforms.
  4. Make sure You can join cross-network play is set to Allow.

Child accounts are managed by a parent in the Xbox Family Settings app. If these options are greyed out, the parent needs to change them there.

Also check that the controller headset isn’t muted (most Xbox headsets have a mute button or a flip-to-mute mic).

Still Not Working?

Voice chat bugs often show up right after a new season or patch, and EA’s forums have had reports like that. Check EA Help's Battlefield 6 voice settings article and the EA forums. If voice broke for your whole squad at once, wait for EA’s fix rather than reinstalling.

FAQ

Can I talk to the whole team in Battlefield 6?

No. EA says voice chat is only available with your squad or party members. Use pings and the Commo Rose to talk to the rest of the team.

Why are my voice chat settings greyed out?

Restart the game first. On Xbox and PlayStation, also check the console’s privacy and parental controls, which can block voice chat for the whole account.

Can I turn off voice chat moderation?

No, EA says moderation can’t be turned off in-game. You can choose not to use voice chat, or mute and block players.
