PUBG voice chat not working usually comes down to three things: the wrong voice mode, the wrong channel, or a mic the game can’t see. All three live in one menu: Settings > Sound > Voice Chat.

Go through the quick fixes first, then your platform section. The in-game steps follow PUBG’s official support advice.

Quick Fixes Checklist

  • Check your headset isn’t muted and is plugged into the right port (mic into mic, not line-in).
  • On PC, press the talk key (T by default) if you are on push-to-talk.
  • Open Settings > Sound > Voice Chat and check the mode, channel and volume.
  • Make sure your voice channel is set to Team if you only want to talk to your squad.
  • Close apps that use a lot of bandwidth or CPU, like streams and downloads, which PUBG says can hurt voice quality.
  • Restart the game, then restart your PC or console.

Fix 1: Check PUBG's Voice Chat Settings

PUBG puts every voice option in one place. Check it first before touching Windows or your console.

  1. Open Settings from the lobby or the in-match menu.
  2. Go to the Sound tab and scroll to Voice Chat.
  3. Check the voice chat mode (push-to-talk or always on) and the channel (Team or All).
  4. Turn up voice volume and the mic level, and use the mic feedback indicator to see if the game hears you.

Labels move slightly between updates, but in current versions everything is under Sound > Voice Chat. If teammates can’t hear you on push-to-talk, check what key or button is set there.

Fix 2: Check the Talk Key and Channel

On PC, push-to-talk is on T by default, so if you never press it, nobody hears you. You can switch to always-on voice in the same Voice Chat menu.

If you’re set to All, you also hear nearby enemies, which can make it seem like your team is silent. Set it to Team to hear only your squad.

Fix 3: Check Mutes and Volume

If only one teammate is silent, check that you haven’t muted them during a match. A muted player stays muted until you turn them back on.

On PC, also open the Windows volume mixer (right-click the speaker icon, then Volume mixer) and make sure PUBG isn’t muted or turned right down.

PC (Windows) Voice Chat Fixes

On PC, Windows has to allow mic access and the right device has to be the default. PUBG usually uses the default input device unless you pick one in-game.

  1. Open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and turn on Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone.
  2. Open Settings > System > Sound, and under Input choose your headset mic. Talk and watch the volume bar move.
  3. Under Output, choose the headset you are actually wearing.
  4. Close other apps that grab the mic, like Discord or a browser call, and test again.

If you play through Steam, you can also test your mic in Steam > Settings > Voice. That only tests the device, but it proves Windows can hear it.

If voice still fails on PC, verify the game files in Steam: right-click PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.

PUBG’s support page also lists the network ports its voice chat uses. If voice never connects on any server, contact your internet provider or check your router’s port settings rather than turning off your firewall.

PS5 Voice Chat Fixes

On PS5, the console decides which mic PUBG hears. If the wrong device is picked, your squad hears nothing.

  1. Press the mic mute button on the DualSense controller. When it glows orange, your mic is muted.
  2. Go to Settings > Sound > Microphone and pick your headset under Input Device.
  3. On the same screen, use Adjust Microphone Level to check the bar moves when you talk.
  4. If the account is a child account, a parent can check Settings > Family and Parental Controls to see whether communicating with other players is restricted.

A PS5 party (Game Base) and in-game voice are separate channels. If your friends are in a PS5 party, you won’t hear the game’s squad voice chat, and the other way around, so agree on one.

Xbox Series X|S Voice Chat Fixes

Xbox privacy settings can block voice chat in every game, PUBG included. Check them on the console or on the account you sign in with.

  1. Press the Xbox button, then go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety.
  2. Open Xbox privacy > View details & customize > Communication & multiplayer.
  3. Set You can communicate outside of Xbox with voice & text to allow it if you play with friends on other platforms.
  4. Make sure You can join cross-network play is set to Allow.

Child accounts are managed by a parent in the Xbox Family Settings app. If these options are greyed out, the parent needs to change them there.

Also check that the controller headset isn’t muted (most Xbox headsets have a mute button or a flip-to-mute mic).

Mobile (PUBG Mobile)

PUBG Mobile is a separate game with its own voice buttons. In a match, tap the speaker icon to hear your team and the mic icon to talk, and pick Team or All.

On iPhone, check Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and turn PUBG Mobile on. On Android, go to Settings > Apps > PUBG Mobile > Permissions > Microphone (menu names vary a little by phone).

Still Not Working?

If it suddenly broke for your whole squad, it may be a server issue after an update. Check the PUBG Support site and its voice chat article, and contact PUBG Player Support with a screenshot of any error if the problem keeps going.

FAQ

What is the PUBG push-to-talk key?

On PC it is T by default. You can change it, or switch to always-on voice, in Settings > Sound > Voice Chat.

Why can I hear enemies but not my team?

Your channel is probably set to All. Switch it to Team and check that you haven’t muted your teammates.

Why does my voice sound choppy in PUBG?

PUBG says poor voice quality is often low bandwidth or high CPU use. Close streams, downloads and heavy background apps, and check your mic cable.
