Can’t hear your squad in Warzone, or they can’t hear you? Most of the time it’s a setting: the wrong voice channel, a muted mic, crossplay chat turned off, or a console privacy setting.
Work through the quick fixes first, then the platform section for PS5, Xbox or PC. The steps are the same whether you play Warzone on its own or through the latest Call of Duty.
Quick Fixes Checklist
- Check that your mic isn’t muted on the headset itself (many have a mute button or flip-up mic).
- Unplug the headset and plug it back in, then restart the game.
- In Warzone, open Settings > Audio and make sure Voice Chat is turned On.
- Set the Game Voice Channel to All Lobby or Party Only, matching who you want to talk to.
- Turn Crossplay Communication on if your friends play on another platform.
- Check the Call of Duty server status before changing anything else.
Fix 1: Check the In-Game Voice Chat Settings
Warzone’s voice options sit in the Audio settings. In current versions, open Settings > Audio and scroll to the Voice Chat section.
- Set Voice Chat to On.
- Set Game Voice Channel to All Lobby (everyone) or Party Only (just your party).
- Choose a Voice Chat Recording Mode: Open Mic or Push to Talk. If you pick Push to Talk, check which button it uses.
- If you use Open Mic, lower the Open Mic Recording Threshold so your voice actually triggers the mic.
- Turn up Microphone Volume and Voice Chat Volume.
On PC there is also a voice chat input and output device option. Pick your headset by name instead of “Default” so the game doesn’t use the wrong device.
Fix 2: Turn On Crossplay Communication
If your friends are on a different platform, Warzone needs crossplay communication on to pass voice between PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Look under Settings > Account & Network for Crossplay Communication and turn it on.
If it is already on, turn it off, back on, then rejoin the party. That simple toggle clears a lot of “can’t hear one friend” problems.
Fix 3: Make Sure Your Account Isn’t Muted
Call of Duty moderates voice chat, and a player can be muted in game for breaking the Code of Conduct. Check your in-game Notifications (top right of the home screen) for any messages about your account.
Activision explains how this works in its Voice Chat Moderation FAQ. If you think a mute is wrong, use Activision’s support site rather than any third-party “unban” service.
Fix 4: “Voice and Text Chat Disabled Due to Platform Restrictions”
This message usually points to a console privacy or family setting, but it has also shown up as a bug on Activision’s side. Check your console settings below first.
If everything is allowed and the message stays, restart the console and check the server status. Activision has had to fix this one on its end before.
PS5: Voice Chat Fixes
- Make sure the mic isn’t muted: the mute button on the DualSense lights up orange when the mic is off.
- Go to Settings > Sound > Microphone, pick your headset as the input device and turn up the microphone level.
- On a child account, the family manager needs to allow Communicating with Other Players in Family Management on the PlayStation website or app.
- If you’re in a PlayStation party, switch to game chat. Party chat and game chat are separate channels, so random squadmates can’t hear a party.
Xbox: Voice Chat Fixes
- Press the Xbox button and open Audio & music to check your headset volume and chat mixer.
- Open Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy, then View details & customize.
- Under Communication & multiplayer, allow You can communicate outside of Xbox with voice & text (needed for crossplay) and You can join cross-network play.
- Child accounts need these allowed by the parent in the Xbox Family Settings app.
- If you’re in an Xbox party, the game won’t hear you. Leave the party or switch to game chat.
PC: Voice Chat Fixes
- Open Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone are on.
- Open Settings > System > Sound and set your headset as the input device. Speak and watch the input level move.
- In Warzone’s audio settings, pick the same headset as the voice chat input and output device.
- Close other apps that grab the mic, like Discord or browser tabs with calls, then restart the game.
- On Steam or Battle.net, run the game’s repair or verify files option if your audio settings don’t save.
Still Not Working?
Check the official Call of Duty online services status page for outages. If the servers are fine and every setting above is right, contact Activision support with your platform and the exact message you see.
Lag can make voice cut in and out too. If your squad sounds choppy, check your connection the same way you would for high ping in Fortnite.
FAQ
Why can my friends hear me but I can’t hear them?
Usually the Voice Chat Volume is low or the wrong output device is selected. Check Settings > Audio in Warzone, then your console or Windows sound output.
Why can’t I hear players on other platforms?
Crossplay Communication is probably off. Turn it on in the game’s Account & Network settings, and on Xbox allow communication outside of Xbox in the privacy settings.
Does party chat work with Warzone game chat?
No. A PlayStation or Xbox party is separate from in-game chat, so random squadmates can’t hear you while you’re in a party.
